According to my research, November and December are the first and second, respectively, rainiest months of the year for Florence*. The average temperature for November is slightly warmer at about 60F to about 40F. December is slightly cooler, slightly less rainy. I´m fine with both, as it rains lots here in Bergen, can be windy, cold, warm, sleety, sunny, overcast, hail...or any combination during the day, during both November and December. I wanted to go off-season, and in what I might consider lovely autumn weather, and think November and December will be fine for visiting!
Flooding has already happened twice.
With the recent flooding, I´ve debated lots though, including changing my list several times, as I´m a bit unsure what to choose.
Tentatively, I am bringing as little as I can get away with, and have decided to buy a few things for the way back, which I had initially decided against. For the way to Florence, I am bringing one carry-on, with a squished large luggage bag inside, for the return trip which I will have checked. That way, I won´t have to worry about losing a checked luggage on the way there, and will still be able to bring some things back if I choose, and can check it all and not worry on the way back either.*
Whilst in Italy, I do not want to end up walking thru water up to my knees carrying my luggages above my head trying to keep it from getting wet, as many recent photos I´ve seen. Most of it was in Venice, but a few were also in Florence, or so they said.
*Update: weather:
Now for my visit, floodings have disappeared, leaving more sunshiney days, with few scattered showers, a few downpours, more sunny days. The end of my visit the weather is predicted to drop rapidly, snowing!:) Appears I´ll have it all, weather-wise. Very excited about that--as much as I was looking forward to the warmer weather, and actually Florence has less rain than Bergen so I was nonplussed about that---I´m so glad it´s gonna snow also! I worried I´d be too warm in my winter Norwegian clothing, which isn´t meant for warmer weather and rain, but usually cold and rain, or cold. Plus, well, being in Italy in December with snow would be like a perfect irl snowglobe visit!:)
